Comm blog entry #1

Taking this communication module has been a breath of fresh air, it isn't as boring (but it sure is thick) as it claims to be (at least a certain Dr. Junhao thought so with respect to theory classes).

I've never had Professor Armstrong as a lecturer for any module as of yet till i took this one. He strikes me as a kind of interesting individual that never fails to speak his mind and does many unorthodox things to prove his point. He plays cheery music in the morning lessons, and who could forget him physically washing his mouth out on the carpeted floor trying to illustrate how the taste of durians stuck in his mouth after eating them!

He also has an uncanny knack for making certain communication terms memorable. For instance when he was explaining how symbols were arbitrary (symbols are what people agree to use to represent things), he said we call a cat a cat because it is an agreed upon symbol to represent a "cat" in society. He went on to say we could choose to call it a "freakoid" if we all agreed on it... that really cracked me up, and now i remember that characteristic of semantics very clearly.

Coming off the back of a weekend of Formula one in Singapore, i would like to congratulate Lewis Hamilton on his number one finish at the Grand Prix yesterday.

Now I'm not a fan of formula one, or car racing for that matter but i always find myself watching the race when it comes around every year. It is one of the single event that the family gathers around the television (there's only one in my house so i don't have much of a choice) to watch the event.

Wonder when Singapore would bring MotoGP here.... That's the one i want to see!
